Freya Perron

Freya Perron is a textile artist originally from Canada, now based in Switzerland. Her works are experiments within the boundaries of a loom. She believes in the timelessness of slow handwork and tradition, and balances her practice within a life that is otherwise fast-paced and technological. Inspired by organic shapes and their tactile qualities, she hopes to express feelings of comfort and curiosity within the natural materials, incorporating thrifted materials, horse hair, moss, and wools.

Process

Each weavings starts out with a series of sketches, which are then narrowed down to one that is brought to the floor loom. The entire weaving is made on the loom, with each thread of every fluff hand-tied onto the warp. Once cut off the loom, the weaving is stretched onto a stretcher, and installed into the custom maple frame. Shapes are brushed and trimmed to achieve their shape.

Commissions

At the moment, most of my work is done on a commission basis. If there is a weaving you enjoy, I would be happy to design an original work inspired by an existing piece or something completely new. As the frames are custom made, size, colours, and shapes are all modifiable. I would love to work together to create the perfect work for you. Let me know if you have any questions at all!
